Was working on a powerpoint presentation (office for mac 2008/os x 10.7.5) pasting tables from excel, when it crashed. No problem - the auto-recovery file was just a few minutes old. As I began the same operation (cutting a table to insert in another slide), another crash. You have a program in your Applications Utilities folder called Console; Fire that up, and it will show you a collection of log files - you should inspect these to see if there is anything obvious showing up at the time of your crashes. Mac OS X: start-up crashes and workarounds! This is temporary topic that would be unpinned once fixes released. Current version of game have number of crash/startup problems on Mac and developers working on fixing them. Keep in mind that workarounds provided in this topic might not work for you and in this case you just need to wait before.

Install El Capitan or Later from Scratch


If possible backup your files.

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the CommandandRkeys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:
  2. Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.
  3. When Disk Utility loads select the volume (indented entry, usually Macintosh HD) from the Device list.
  4. Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
  5. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  6. Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.
  7. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  8. Select Install OS X and click on the Continue button.

This will install the version of OS X you had installed.
